Opera in the Ozarks 2023: Auditions, Full scholarships
Dear colleague, I write to announce auditions for the 72nd season of Opera in the Ozarks at Inspiration Point. Our color poster has been sent out but you may download, print and share one HERE. I ask that you display one with the hope that your students will audition for and possibly attend our program. Opera in the Ozarks is one of the oldest and finest summer opera training programs in the country that each year gives young vocalists the opportunity to sing multiple performances of lead roles with orchestra in the original language. Our many distinguished alumni acknowledge the rigor, intensity, and inspiration it supplied to their development as professional performers and educators. Many have sung on the world’s greatest operatic and concert stages. For our 2023 season we will mount fully staged productions with orchestra of L’elisir d’amore (in Italian) Orphée aux Enfers (in French, English dialogue) and for the first time at Inspiration Point, Copland’s The Tender Land. The Studio Artist production for children will be Cinderella. We select only 45 promising young vocalists, so with seven or eight performances of each opera and roles only double cast, all are assured of great opportunities for growth in and out of the spotlight. Many Emerging Artists will be featured in principal or supporting roles in two productions. Valuable features of our program:
A collegial atmosphere and supportive artistic staff bring forth growth and strong performances from each artist in high-quality productions.
Lessons, master classes and workshops with our resident artist faculty and guest artists in voice, movement/stage skills, stage combat, yoga for performers, and career development provide enriching and horizon-expanding opportunities. Returning in 2023 are dynamic alumni voice teachers-in-residence Catherine Cook (San Francisco Conservatory) and Lorraine Ernest (University of Oklahoma).
The Studio Artist Program incorporates less-experienced singers fully into the OIO experience. Studio Artists are featured in their own traveling children’s opera production. Many also sing main stage supporting roles, chorus and participate fully in the popular Broadway Cabaret evenings.
This year, in addition to virtual auditions, we will again hold LIVE AUDITIONS in New York, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Norman, Dallas, Houston and Tucson. Artists will apply through YAP Tracker. The deadline for final application/virtual auditions is February 5, 2023. Early application incentive: four full-expense scholarships for Emerging Artist applicants are available for artists submit recorded virtual auditions before December 1. Complete information can be found at opera.org/artist-audition-information. We anticipate another exciting season and look forward to the possibility of working with some of your students this summer at Inspiration Point. Sincerely, Thomas Cockrell Artistic Director www.opera.org Facebook: OperaOzarks
